Click HERE to register online. Registration deadline: June 23, 2012.

Weekend workshops: June 16-July 8

Classes and Rehearsals: July 9-August 10 (Mon-Fri)

Performances: August 15-18, Scotiabank Dance Centre

Law of Proximity is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for youth to create and perform their own contemporary dance show, mentored by internationally respected dance company MACHiNENOiSY.

Contact Improvisation requires no formal dance training. It is a dance of proximity that works with shared weight, shared choice making and shared physical contact; points of physical contact provide the starting point for movement improvisation.

Participants will discuss the show’s content during weekend workshops. From these, up to 8 lucky participants will be hired for an intensive creation period of daily classes and rehearsals, culminating in a 4-day performance run at the Scotiabank Dance Centre as part of the 2012 Queer Arts Festival.

All are welcome for weekend workshops and for the morning classes.

Youth selected for the performance will be paid rehearsal fees and performance honoraria.

MACHiNENOiSY is a contemporary dance company that transcends traditional notions of dance and theatre.  Artistic Directors Delia Brett and Daelik have a long and unique history of working together as dancers, teachers and creators both in North America and Europe. Two of the leading dancer/creators of this art form in Canada, their approach has marked them as innovators and courageous rule breakers.
